Technology and Travel

Spending the week at a technolgy conference in DC.  The resort I am staying at is several miles South of the main DC attractions, and as I type this, I am on a bus headed downtown.  This reminds me of how much technology has changed the way I travel.  To make this trip,  I google Earthed all the sights I wanted to see and place marked them in relationship to my hotel.  I checked out my bus and subway trip on the internet and I am following my progress on my GPS enabled phone. If I get lost, damn sure I won’t admit it.

New and Improved Website

The annual payment for my website was coming due and I took the opportunityto remove some features that I was paying for and not using.   To do that, they had to move the site from one server to another one.  In the end I actually ended up with more functionality rather than less.  The new server has better webmail features and a number of applications that I can add to the site, including a WordPress blog application.  I toyed with it, but the WordPress site still has more functionality for the price (even though they are both free).  So for now I will keep my blog on the WordPress site.

I did take the opportunity to redesign my website using Microsoft Web Expressions.  In general I like the program, but it handles styles very poorly.  If you even look at it wrong it creates a new style.

I added a rotating photo highlight on the front page.  I plan on expanding that feature more in the future.
